Technical seminar: Possibilities and limitations in reconciling the productive, natural and social functions of forests, based on the example of the activities of the ‘Bory Lubuskie’ Forest Promotion Complex
On 18 June 2025, the Forestry and Wood Sciences Committee of the Poznań Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences organised a technical seminar entitled ‘Possibilities and limitations in reconciling the productive, natural and social functions of forests on the example of the activities of the “Bory Lubuskie” Forest Promotion Complex’.
The event was an opportunity to discuss the contemporary role of forests and forestry in the face of changing climatic conditions, declining biodiversity and growing – often conflicting – social expectations towards forests. Forest Promotion Complexes, such as the LKP ‘Bory Lubuskie’, are experimental spaces where innovative forms of forest management combining production, nature and social functions are tested. The seminar programme included both a field trip – with stops in Nowogród Bobrzański, Brody, Jeziora Wysokie and the border area of Zasieki–Forst – and an intimate session at the Nature and Forest Education Centre in Jeziora Wysokie.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the history of the region, the achievements of the Lubuskie Forest District, and practical examples of harmonising the various functions of the forest.
