The Poznań Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1972 and its activity covers two regions: the Wielkopolska and Lubuskie Voievodoship. It was the third Branch formed after those in Kraków and Wrocław. The establishment of the Poznań Branch was initiated by Professors Gerard Labuda and Maciej Wiewiórowski. The first President of the Poznań Branch was Professor Labuda.
